Udeeta Borpujari, Jorhat

When the clouds chose to burst,

As the rain made shiny diamonds

Before touching the muddy ground.

Your body now lies on the ground,

Dead and lifeless.

Your humongous silhouette,

Still reverberating the heartbeats

That once were so full of life,

But now it is like a sky full of dark clouds,

Lingering with a few last breaths.

Poincianas forming a carpet on the floor,

Like a last salutation to the great soul.

The birds stood still with grief,

The bread crumbs lying untouched,

Praying for the peace

For the one who housed them,

Saved them from every storm

But today, could hold no longer.

Even in death,

You protected us and others around.

Yet we passed you by

Decade after decade,

Without ever noticing your beauty.

But here we are,

Mourning the death

Of a hundred year old tree.
